Recently, the development of serologic assay to detect antibody to HCV has allowed for seroepidermiologic surveys and new insights into the Non-A, Non-B hepatitis disease spectrum.
In this study, prevalence of anti-HCV in 53 patients with HBsAg negative chronic liver diseases was evaluated and also clinical spectrum of 23 chronic hepatitis C was studied.
1. Forty one percent was the prevalence of anti-HCV in 34 patients of HBsAg negative chronic hepatitis.
2. In 23 chronic hepatitis C patients, the ratio of male and female was 13 : 1 and the age distribution was even through thirthith to sixth.
3. Eight(35%) of 23 chronic hepatitis C has the history of transfusion.
4. The clinical manifestations of chronic hepatitis C were asymptomatic(30%), anorexia(61%), fatigue(65%), weight loss(35%), and the levels of ALT and AST were elevated mildly as 99.5¡¾80.4 and 74.5¡¾47.3 IU/L.
5. Hepatitis B marker study showed HBsAg positive in 2 cases(9%), Anti-HBs positive in 10 cases(43%), and both HBsAg and Anti-HBs negative in 11 cases(48%).
